Never Stop Being A Dad!

Never stop being a dad!

Every time I drive to go to town I see this phrase “Never stop being a Dad”. It comes from a bill board not too far from where I live. It is an ad that is based on a short documentary that emphasizes the importance of fatherhood in the lives of their children.

Every child needs a Dad. This doesn’t mean to just be a dad on Father’s Day. It is good that we are remembered on this day. It should also apply to every dad in every home every day of every week of every month, all year ’round. So many children today are growing up without a father; without someone to mentor them, to show them the ropes of what to do or not do in life.

Being a father is not just a one time thing where you do your part and give birth and then you leave. It is a life-time commitment. It is the never ending story of raising a child and going through growing up stages of 12 years of schooling and then four years of higher education. Now, you are the role model; you are the one who has to become the person that a child looks up to, to teach him or her, showing what and how to go about doing what is right. You set the example. WOW, AWESOME!!!

In other words, never stop being a Dad. I never had any sons. That’s what I tell my two grandsons. Each has a child 3 year old and a 5 month old baby. This is the time when children start to learn what they are going to do in life; the first six years are the most extremely important years. In these early years, the first six years, kids are like sponges absorbing, learning and exploring this strange new world we call Earth. This is the time when We, as Dads, should Educate our Sons and Daughters. Yes, I said educate. For we are their first teachers. They depend on us to show them the way.

I guess I must have taught my oldest daughter something good, because she has been passing it on to her two sons, who are fathers now. To work hard is very essential. But family has to come first showing support and love until they are ready to leave the nest. No body really teaches you this. It is something you learn as you go along.

In Conclusion

That’s right, being a Dad is a work in progress. It never stops. Therefore do the right thing, that you may reap the rewards later along the way in life. No matter what life throws at you. Everybody has different challenges. You never stop learning and teaching. As Dads, we are all put to the test. Mistakes are made along the way with good and bad decisions. The main thing to remember is that Family always comes first and have faith in God. Do that and little by little everything just seems to fall into place. So, here’s to all the Fathers, Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers!!!
